The expansion of biomass solutions continues across the Iberian Peninsula with the completion of a new pellet storage facility in Aveiro, Portugal. This project strengthens Silos Spain’s presence in the country, following the recent commissioning of the plant in Figueira da Foz, reinforcing its position in the sustainable energy sector.
A facility designed for efficient biomass storage
The plant includes two hopper silos, model 04.58/10, specifically designed for pellet storage, ensuring efficient handling of solid biofuel. Their structural design allows them to withstand demanding conditions, including snow loads of up to 250 kg/m² and seismic activity, guaranteeing reliable long-term performance.
The pneumatic loading system, combined with a complete network of pipes and valves, ensures safe and continuous operation, optimizing filling processes and reducing downtime.
Temperature control and pellet preservation
To maintain pellet quality during storage, the facility is equipped with a temperature monitoring system using strategically placed probes. This system enables real-time supervision of internal conditions, preventing material degradation and ensuring optimal preservation.
Safe access and efficient maintenance
The project includes catwalks supported by dome and lateral brackets, as well as access ladders exceeding 17 meters in height. These elements facilitate inspection and maintenance tasks, improving overall operational safety.
In addition, a perimeter platform has been installed to provide safe access to key system components.
Advanced discharge and safety systems
Pellet discharge is carried out by rotary valves, supported by emergency emptying systems compliant with ATEX21 standards. These include 90º motorized bifurcated valves and manual slide gates, ensuring a controlled and safe material flow.
In terms of safety, the facility incorporates explosion vent panels and nitrogen injection systems, designed to minimize risks in potentially explosive atmospheres and enhance fire prevention.
Silos Spain drives biomass development in Portugal
This new project in Aveiro, together with the recent plant in Figueira da Foz, reflects the growing demand for efficient biomass storage solutions in Portugal.
Silos Spain continues to develop tailor-made installations, combining engineering expertise, high-quality materials, and advanced technology to deliver robust, efficient systems ready to meet the challenges of the energy sector.
